#72 The Caring Challenge

Hello, friends.

Happy father’s day to all the dads out there. It was great fun with my boys and even squeezed in a round of golf. This is also the first father’s day without my dad here. It’s been a little different. And he’s been on my mind a little more recently.

What I’m Learning

One of the biggest challenges I have is candor. It’s not the sincerity or honestly I struggle with, it’s frankness and openness. My tendency is to sugar coat too much or hold it in until the “right time”. I’ve even read the book. Still, it’s something I’m working on daily.

In the last week or so, I’ve had several opportunities to be candid with my team, working with clients and at home. It’s going better. The HIP Feedback framework is helping. It goes like this:

  • Helpful
  • Humble
  • Immediate
  • In Person
  • Public Praise / Private Criticism
  • Not about Personality

Changelog

Honestly: June has been much busier than normal. We’re up 30% over last year through the first 15 days. Next week we onboard a new client and are preparing quarterly business reviews to go out at end of the month.

LOFT: Last week we hosted LOFT’s first sales training day. I spent the week in Michigan and we flew up most of the team for a day of sales training with one of our advisors, Justin Ivy. The outline he used was Identity, Process, Preparation, Partnering and Purpose.

CrewPay: We pushed several enhancements to the onboarding and the flow is much smoother. CrewPay also sponsored a homeschooling campus director’s training last week. Lastly, my guest appearance on the SaaS Marketing Insights podcast went live last week. Please check it out and share around if you’re so inclined. Leading With Outreach With David Horne Of CrewPay.

Until next time.
