Agency, hope, and momentum

Hello, friends.

How have you been? It’s been active on my end over the last couple of months.

March and April were filled with coaching the Sandhills Highlanders Golf team. We had a successful year, and it’s an honor to work with such talented and incredible junior golfers.

On the business front, we’ve focused our efforts on several exciting new branding and products at Judicial Systems (hope to share more soon), Honestly’s acquisition of The Anderson Group, and most recently, selling Wavve to Disctopia.

Marty and I also had the opportunity to talk about leadership and software on The Forge of Unicorns Podcast. As always, he was his usual brilliant self. Here are a few quotes of his from the episode:

“Whether you’re an entry-level staff person or an executive, the stakes are higher as a leader, but those people need encouragement too. They need grace too. They need to know it’s okay to fall and get back up.”
“When we buy a company, our job is stewardship. We cast a vision, break it into bite-sized chunks, and coach the teams to move forward. It’s not command and control. It’s about creating a place where people feel agency, hope, and momentum.”

Seen, heard, or read anything interesting? Is there anything you’re digging right now?

It’s also Memorial Day in the states. And per usual, I think about the family members, friends, and friends of friends who have died serving our country.

In my DayOne journal, two memories popped up from Memorial Days in the past I thought I’d include.

  1. I wrote this newsletter a few years ago to the LOFT team. I republished it here (Leadership Lessons from Major Winters).
  2. Minnesota by Rob Blackwell: Apple Music | Spotify | YouTube

Been great catching up.

Talk soon,

David
