Say no to shortcuts

I read a post earlier this year from Seth Godin about getting unstuck. Thought I’d share it with you in case it’s relevant to anything you’re working on.

  1. Grab three index cards
  2. On each card, write down one component of the thing you’re stuck on, that if you invested money and time on it, would improve.
  3. Now picture those things that happened and you are less stuck.
  4. Decide what you’re going to do from here to proceed.

I like this method because it forces us to reframe our issues. That said, it won’t work if we seek shortcuts or silver bullets.

My college coach was fond of saying:

Shortcuts are traps. Real solutions require persistence, self-awareness and acceptance.

Granted, he was talking about hitting a small ball around a field but I’ve found it works off the course as well.

I write to friends when something’s worth sharing: insights on leadership, reflections on faith, thoughts on business, and the occasional golf story. Sign up and I’ll let you know when there’s something.

No spam, no sharing to third party. Only you and me.
