Two investments In business (and life) that always pay off

Growing any business requires investing. There are obvious investments like capital and sweat equity. No business is successful without doing the work and some financial resources. Fortunately, you don’t need VC funding to get something going.

These investments don’t always work out though. People lose money all the time. Two kinds of investing that always pay a good return are investing in yourself and investing in other people.

Invest in Yourself

Ask every successful person or entrepreneur you know if they’ve spent time investing in their own growth. The answer is always and unanimously yes. In most cases, they invested in themselves first. If you’re learning, you are growing. Growth applied will reap dividends. One person I’ve seen consistently do this is this guy. The results are pretty evident as his company, Treehouse, is crushing it.

5 Ways to invest in yourself.

  1. Read
  2. Associate with people who stretch you
  3. Learn a new skill
  4. Eat healthy and exercise
  5. Pray/Meditate

Invest in other People

The other investment that always pays off is investing in others. When you spend time and resources helping others grow and develop, they become more valuable. Think about someone who poured into you and how it shaped your work and life. Would you say their investment paid off? Are you able to contribute more to the world than before?

5 ways to invest in others.

  1. Volunteer your time
  2. Mentor
  3. Encourage
  4. Give money
  5. Teach

Now I don’t claim to be an expert in the stock market or angel investing, but human capital always increases in value when investments are made.

I’m challenging myself to grow daily and find at least one person to invest in each week. Who else is in?
